Our client faced the challenge of designing and fitting structural beams to support a basement roof in London. This was a complex site with many obstacles to avoid which would be almost impossible to manually survey with a tape measure and laser pointer.

Our LiDAR Scan-to-Design service was the perfect solution. After just a few hours of scanning on site we were able to produce a detailed point cloud of the basement structure. Using our Tekla software we were able to position the structural support beams directly within the E57 point cloud to determine their position, lengths and identify any clashes. Once the beams locations had been agreed and finalised we added connections and splice details ensuring constructability and safe materials handling in the unusual site conditions.

During the design phase many issues were identified, mainly clashes with existing M&E and beam support issues. By sharing the Virtual Tour of the site and screenshots of the Tekla environment we were able to discuss and find solutions with all of the stakeholders without having to re-visit site. This eliminated the need to re-visit site saving time and finances plus removing any risks associated with staff having to walk around this potentially hazardous site.
