Food Factory Stainless Steel Access Platforms

Project type

Scan-to-Design

Date

Feb 2025

Location

Coventry

Early in 2024 we designed and detailed several Stainless Steel Food Processing Mixer platforms catering to operational and maintenance needs. As the production lines have developed over the year and the client now requires additional maintenance platforms to be added to one of the platforms. With limited space and a very congested area due to machinery, pipework and ducting the design and positioning of the platforms was going to be difficult to achieve.

The food factory is 70 miles away from my clients head office so problem solving the design was going to be problematic potentially requiring many site visits. The fact that this is a working production line compounds the site access issues. Our 3D LiDAR survey service Scan-to-Design is able to capture all of the critical dimensions, combined with 24/7 access to a Interactive 3D Virtual Tour of the site, provides the perfect solution.

One site survey taking just over 1 hour is all that was needed to be able to start designing the platforms. The platforms sizes and positions were 3D modelled directly within the scanned point-cloud ensuring that the sizes were dimensionally correct and that all potential clashes were avoided. Several meeting were required with the client to finalise designs and Project Plan the installation. All of these meeting were able to be held at their head-office without the need to travel to the food factory by utilising the 3D Virtual Tour to walk around the site, identify potential problems and mitigate all issues.
